What Is Your Why?

Why do you want what you want? That seems like such a simple question, but it’s one that really requires some attention. And often, you need to keep pushing to find the answer.

For example…

Q: Why do you want to lose weight?

A: I want to lose weight so I feel better in my clothes.

Q: Why do you want to feel better in your clothes?

A: Because they’re too tight.

Q: Why not get bigger clothes?

A: I refuse to get bigger clothes.

Does person A really want to feel better in her clothes or does she want to return to a previous time when she felt good about the way she looked and felt in her body. THAT’s her why. That feeling, that confidence, the positive vibes they associate with that.

When you start anything new, ask yourself why you are doing this thing. What do you hope to get out of it? What does that look like? What does that feel like? Write it down, and when you stray, read it. In fact, just stick it on your mirror and read it every morning. Or tape it to the back of your hand. You’ll be much more likely to reach any goal you choose.

About @jamieweil

I'm on an adventure to bring happiness, relaxation, and some shine to a stressed out world. You might call it a Divine mission. Covid Season 2020 has taught me some important lessons about myself and about you, but most importantly about US. I have written about those in a book called Shine: When Chasing Sacred Spaces Goes Dark, my 6th book which came out December 2020 and hit #1 Bestseller in 7 categories thanks to my readers. I teach an online class to empower empaths through writing and am holding my first writing retreat for empaths under the Full Flower Moon and Lunar Eclipse May 5-7, 2023 in mystical Mt. Shasta, California. We have sold our house, not bought another, and have set out on a synchronistic adventure with Kai, our 103 pound lab, at the center. We call it The Kainnection Adventure. Dogs are the equalizers of all. (Home base: www.jamieweil.net)

As Jim Rohn used to say, “When the why is powerful enough, the how becomes easy.” Intention is
the first step of self transformation. Imagine trying to win a scavenger hunt, without a list of the items you’re looking for. That list is like our intentions. Without well developed intentions, we wouldn’t know if we accomplished our goal. Great post Jamie. Thanks!

Thanks, Damien. Love the scavenger hunt simile. One day you will be speaking in front of large groups of people on transformation–probably at Asilomar–and I will say, “I have one of his acronistic poems!” For your kind words, I am grateful.
